Are you lacking Verbal-Confidence
A high percentage of people admit to having a fear of speaking in public, but did you know that many are just as nervous about talking over the telephone or through web based communication tools like Skype and web conference rooms?
It is understandable to think that talking from the safety of your own home would be easier than speaking in front of a group of people, but that’s not always the case. The nervous speaker is aware that a large group is paying attention to them and that’s all it takes to make their knees knock and voice tremble.
As scary as verbal communication can be for some, it is a skill well worth developing – especially for internet business owners.
Think about it, we can run much of our business by email but we still need to be comfortable on the telephone. If you shy away from telephone calls you’ll miss out on many opportunities to share your message, services and products.
Beyond phone calls there are so many great ways to gain free exposure through radio and podcast interviews or by speaking at group events – not to mention the chance to host your own podcast or put on your own virtual event – all good tactics for establishing your brand.
If you’re an information marketer it becomes even more important. Many prefer to learn via audio so creating audio learning resources is a smart option to offer.
I challenge you to set a goal this year to improve your verbal communication skills. If you have a fear of speaking to groups, tackle it head on. If you know you could be a more effective communicator, seek out ways to improve. Drop those ‘hums, ums and errs’ from your vocabulary once and for all.
Without a doubt, I can tell you that sharing my heart and passion one on one, in groups and via recordings has been one of my greatest assets as an internet marketer. You may not ever want to create as much audio content as I do, but you’ll never be sorry that you’ve prepared yourself when a great opportunity comes down the road.
