Australian Supermarkets
The latest government survey on grocery prices have Coles Supermarkets the cheapest in most regions of Australia.
From the 61 regions surveyed throughout Australia based on an average Family’s shopping Order Coles was cheaper in 36.
At this stage Coles dominates the market in New South Wales, Victorian, Western Australian and the Northern Territory but strangely for Queensland Tasmania and ACT shoppers Woollies is still the cheapest.
The honour of cheapest supermarket in a Australia changes from month to month, but if you are lucky enough to have a Aldi store in your area you will be able to save up to at the least 40% on your normal grocery bills.
We are what always hearing stories on the television with regard to price fixing amongst the major supermarkets and the varying prices from suburb to suburb area to area. In many cases country shoppers pay more at Woollies and Coles then they city counterparts. The reason for this we are told is Fuel and Distance, but it’s amazing, even when fuel prices drop their prices don’t.
If you are not lucky enough to have an Aldi store in your area you possibly have other independence, grocery stores. The main 2 being IGA and Food Works. In our particular area, IGI also the better deals, but around trip to the store is 72 km, whereas a round trip to the Food Works store is only 32 km.
Distance and fuel cost us something you have to keep in mind when grocery shopping. Otherwise any savings you make on grocery items can be exceeded by the cost of your fuel. Discount fuel vouches as offered by Woollies and Coles in most cases cost you more than they are worth as their Servo’s are usually at least 2c to 3c dearer that the opposition .
