Ideal Kitchen
The Basics
Every kitchen should have windows on two sides of the room, enabling the sun to enter the majority of the day. The windows should open from the top to allow a complete change of fresh air. Sun and air in a kitchen is the kitchens best friends.
It is important to have excellent ventilation to remove odors from the kitchen. You do not want a lingering smell in the kitchen after the food is complete.
You should have room for a table, two chairs, a sufficient sink, plenty of cupboard and shelf space. Do not clutter your kitchen with unnecessarily large furniture pieces that makes it difficult to walk around. If the removal of unneeded furniture occurs, your kitchen will be easier to keep tidy surely.
Hang utensils on the wall or place them in a cup besides the sink. Cooking utensils are rather large so it might be difficult for you to keep them in the drawer.
A concrete or tile kitchen floor floors are better than wooden floors because they do not absorb moisture but rather repel it.
If you do have woodwork in your kitchen, have it coated and polished. Grease stains and other undesirable substances will not penetrate woodwork if coated and polished and can be removed with a damp rag.
Elements of Beauty
Flowers on the window ledge or arranged upon brackets on window in winter will greatly enhance the kitchens beauty. You cannot go wrong with flowers in the kitchen all year around. A window box arranged as a jardinière, with vines and blooming plants in summer as well.
Kitchen Furniture
The furniture you place in the kitchen should be appealing, but at the same time, functional. There should be plenty of cupboard with sliding doors (much superior to closets). Cupboards should be placed upon casters so as to be easily moved.
Cupboards used for food storage should be well ventilated or the food may develop germs and mold. Cupboard doors covered with very fine wire gauze will allow air to enter but keep out flies and dust.
Small tables on easy-rolling casters, and with zinc tops, are convenient and kept clean very easily. A simple kitchen table is suitable if you do not want or need one with rolling castors. The advantage is that you can move the table where you need to and many of the have drawers for added storage.
Place shelves where appropriate in order for you to maximize the space for cook books and other materials you want to display in the kitchen.
Sink & Pipes
A sink must be well maintained at all times in order for you to avoid germs and un wanted bugs. Ensure you clean your sink and pipes regularly with disinfectant.
Do not throw bits of food down the sink because it will clog. Do not dump grease down the sink either because it will become hard by cooling. This will adhere to the pipes and over time your pipes will become blocked or the water will pass down in the drain very slowly.
Dump the grease in the garbage and ensure when cleaning your plates and pots, as little grease is on them as possible before washing.
The sink should stand out from the wall, in order for you to keep it clean on all sides. The pipes and fixtures should be installed by a quality plumber (or you can try, good luck).
